Built, and found
Production
In 1921 the factory built 2,500 cars — more than any year before or since. The Registry has found 2 of them, 0.1%.
- 56,709cars built
- 5,819found by the Registry
- 10%accounted for
The factory kept count of every car it built, and owners, one at a time, have told me about theirs. Put the two records side by side and you can see how much of each year is accounted for!
Compare both records by year and model, then follow them into the cars owners have recorded.
10%of the factory total
About one car in ten the factory built is in the Registry. That is recorded coverage, not a survival rate.

Model histories
Choose a Morgan family. Follow the changes in engines, chassis and bodies, then compare that lineage with the factory record and the cars owners have entered in the Registry.
Model history adapted from Mark Braunstein’s unofficial Morgan Timeline (v139, 2026). Open the full chart
Plus 4
From the flat-radiator post-war car through Triumph, Rover and Ford power, the Plus 4 repeatedly changed its mechanical character.
The timeline lists Vanguard and Triumph engines, TR2/TR3 and TR4 eras, then Fiat, Rover, Ford GDI and the CX platform.
Timeline note by Mark Braunstein · v139Braunstein’s chart opens the Plus 4 lane in the early 1950’s with the flat-radiator 2,088 cc model.
Mark Braunstein, Morgan Timeline v139Sources differ. The first Plus 4 prototype is dated 1949 by the Registry’s timeline and July 1950 by an enthusiast’s history, three months before the Earl’s Court show. Read more
The line spans the first and last years with a production figure in the factory records. It does not claim continuous production in every intervening year.
The record continues
Braunstein’s timeline ends in 2020. The factory records continue through 2025; 2026 is listed without figures.
These are the factory’s own production figures, as Morgan gave them. A blank means the factory gave no figure. The Registry count is the cars owners have sent in, not an estimate of every survivor.
Projects listed in the timelineConcepts and one-offsRead the project notes
EvaGT
Unveiled at Pebble Beach with a BMW 3.0-litre twin-turbo six and six-speed automatic or manual. Production was later cancelled.
LIFEcar
A fuel-cell electric concept developed with QinetiQ, as recorded in Braunstein’s timeline.
Plus E
An electric Morgan using a 70 kW Zytek motor appears as a prototype project.
SP1
A one-off special built on the Roadster chassis.
These project notes are adapted from Mark Braunstein’s unofficial 2020 timeline. They describe what that document records, not a complete official company history.

Where this comes from
Factory figures come from the Registry’s production records. The model histories and the edition sizes above come from these.

Braunstein chart, v139
Not an official Morgan Motor Company publication; its author notes it may contain errors, and that new technology reached some cars of a model year before others. Where the chart gives no date, the year shown here is read from the item’s position on the chart and marked “c.”.
